Four start-up projects initiated by 11 HKBU students from various disciplines were selected by the Hong Kong X Foundation as the 50 most innovative projects under the FYP+ Supporting Scheme.

Each selected project was awarded HK$20,000 start-up capital. In addition, students will be given the opportunity to visit local renowned business enterprises and corporations and learn valuable experiences from industry professionals and veteran entrepreneurs.

The four innovative projects of HKBU are: 

 - “e-Farming HK” designed by Xu Zheng (School of Communication, Year 2), which enables Hong Kong people to order fresh vegetables and fruits produced by local farms at a reasonable price through a mobile application;

- “Statistical Analysis of Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) using data mining methods” formulated by Huang Jingyan (Statistics and Operations Research, Year 4), which aims to further enhance the efficiency and performance of the LIDAR Windshear Alerting System over runways by analysing the runway-specific LIDAR system installed by Hong Kong Observatory at the Hong Kong International Airport;

- “Development of a novel osteoclast-targeted cathepsin K inhibitor to suppress bone resorption in postmenopausal women” jointly developed by Yang Sichang, Chen Jieli, Luo Jingyuan, Yang Haocheng (Bachelor of Chinese Medicine and Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science, Year 4), and Teng Shuyan (Bachelor of Pharmacy in Chinese Medicine, Year 3), which studies the development of an osteoclast-targeted cathepsin K to suppress the decreased bone formation found in elderly women; and 

- A proposal to set up a professional animation production company to provide services for the biomedical sciences research field by Liu Hesen (School of Business, Year 3), Yang Liu (Academy of Film, Year 4), Luo Jingyuan, Yang Haocheng, Mo Xiaohan (Bachelor of Chinese Medicine and Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science, Year 4), and Ma Haofei (Bachelor of Chinese Medicine and Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science, Year 3). They hope to make some changes to the existing knowledge transfer channel as well as to enhance the efficiency and attractiveness of information flow in that field.

The FYP+ Supporting Scheme was launched by the Hong Kong X Foundation with the aim of providing local university students an opportunity to demonstrate their innovative talents and realise their creative dreams. The judging panel will later select a final project with the highest commercial potential out of the 50 most innovative projects to receive a seed capital of up to HK$500,000.
