A hundred of school teachers attended a sharing session on teaching and learning strategies for the "Music Seed Project (2017-2018)" on 9 July.
The session, with the theme "Adapted Music Curriculum for Students with Intellectual Disability – Learning and Teaching Strategies" was co-organised by the Department of Education Studies (EDUC) of HKBU and the Special Education Division of the Curriculum Development Institute of the Education Bureau.
Funded by the Special Education Division, the "Music Seed Project (2017-2018)" was led by Dr Marina Wong, Associate Professor of EDUC. Participating teachers received professional development training through curriculum adaptation, pilot teaching and school visits conducted through the Project.
Dr Marina Wong and the music teachers of the participating schools shared their experience. Participating teachers of the project expressed that they are able to and are confident in administering and improving their adapted school-based music curriculum in the future. Moreover, the Project can set an example for music teachers to design school-based music curriculum for students with intellectual disabilities in special schools.
Participating schools of the Project were Rotary Club of Hong Kong Island West Hong Chi Morninghope School, Evangelize China Fellowship Holy Word School, Haven of Hope Sunnyside School, HKSYC & IA Chan Nam Chong Memorial School, Hong Kong Red Cross Margaret Trench School, Caritas Jockey Club Lok Yan School, The Mental Health Association of Hong Kong Cornwall School and Po Leung Kuk Anita L L Chan (Centenary) School.
