Dr Daisy Tam, Assistant Professor of the Department of Humanities and Creative Writing, recently received the 2018-19 Fulbright-RGC Hong Kong Senior Research Scholar Award.

Dr Tam will continue her interdisciplinary research project “Crowdsourcing Food Rescue -- a new approach to Food Security and Urban Resilience” that investigates the potential of a networked approach to collecting surplus food in the city at the Urban Risk Lab of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, for six months in the forthcoming fall. She aims to co-develop an online platform with the Lab to be piloted in Hong Kong.

Dr Tam was thrilled and honoured to be one of the two recipients to receive the Fulbright-RGC Hong Kong Senior Research Scholar Award. She said, “In particular, I look forward to the opportunity to work in such an interdisciplinary environment. I hope my project can demonstrate that the Arts and Sciences can come together in meaningful ways to create high-impact academic research that is relevant to society.” 

The award, created through the partnership between the Research Grants Council (RGC) and the US Consulate General in Hong Kong and Macau with the support of Lee Hysan Foundation, supports two university scholars annually to undertake research activities at American universities and research institutes for a duration of four to 10 months. Dr Tam said, “I hope that my continuous work on urban food systems can help reduce food waste, increase resilience for the socially vulnerable, and contribute to sustainable urban development in the face of climate change.”
