HKBU announced the appointment of Professor Ricky Wong as Academic Registrar, with effect from 1 September 2017.
Currently Associate Vice-President (Teaching and Learning) and Chair Professor of Biology of HKBU, Professor Ricky Wong excels in teaching and research, and has rich experience in academic leadership. He joined HKBU in 1991 in the Department of Biology, and was Head of the Department from 2003 to 2008, and Associate Dean of Science from 2008 to 2014. He has held the title of Associate Vice-President since 2014.
During his tenure as Associate Vice-President, Professor Wong played a leadership role in overseeing the implementation of the new 3+3+4 curriculum. Since 2016, he has worked on academic matters as Chairman of several university-wide committees including the Undergraduate Regulations Committee, General Education Committee, and Taskforce on Review of University Language Policy, and as a member of the Quality Assurance Committee as well as Quality Assurance Sub-committee on Sub-degree Programmes.
President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Roland Chin thanked Professor Wong for taking up the dual role of Associate Vice-President and Academic Registrar. He said: “Professor Wong’s strong leadership and rich experience in administration as well as academic matters will definitely help HKBU in developing strategies for the work of the Academic Registry, in addition to teaching and learning initiatives.”
As Academic Registrar, Professor Wong will be responsible for overall planning and strategy-setting for promoting academic programmes, and recruitment and admission of undergraduate students. He will also contribute to the overall development of academic policies, regulations and procedures of the University in support of academic quality assurance and curriculum. As Associate Vice-President (Teaching and Learning), Professor Wong will continue to be responsible for a broad range of academic matters to enhance students’ learning experience.
Professor Ricky Wong obtained his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Biochemistry from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Oklahoma, USA.
On behalf of the University, President Chin thanked Dr So Kwok-sang for his dedication and valuable contributions to the University during his tenure as Academic Registrar in the past six years and wished Dr So every success in his future endeavours.
