HKBU announced the appointment of Professor Ronald Chung as new Dean of Continuing Education with effect from 7 May 2018.


Professor Chung is currently the Deputy Executive Director of the Vocational Training Council (VTC), responsible for the policy aspects related to programmes at degree level and above, and to a number of academic disciplines at the Higher Diploma level. Prior to joining VTC in 2013, he was a Professor and Chairman of the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). From 2009 to 2011, he served as the Associate Dean of the Faculty of Engineering of CUHK.

Professor Chung has contributed to society in sectors beyond education. He was the President of a chapter of the Hong Kong Junior Chamber, and served as the Chairman of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Hong Kong Section Joint Chapter of Robotics, Automation and Control Systems Society. He also served as the Hong Kong Section Chairman of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

Announcing the appointment, President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Roland Chin said: “Professor Chung is an academic leader with rich experience in higher education administration and management. We are confident that under his leadership, the School of Continuing Education will continue to provide diversified quality education to the younger generation, professionals and adult learners.”

Professor Chung obtained a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from The University of Hong Kong, and a PhD in Computer Engineering from the University of Southern California in the US. He is a Chartered Engineer of the UK, a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, and a Fellow of the British Computer Society.
